Welcome to the Trends Analysis Program Minimize

The mission of the Trends Analysis Program (or TAP) is inform the community of security practitioners, by using a collaborative, shared format, about selected trends related to security challenges of importance within the Asia Pacific (AP) region.  Initially we will focus on issues related to disaster management and human security, although as it matures the program will branch off to other topics. The program is designed to incorporate your input and your interests - althought it is formed within the Asis Pacific Center, we intend to make the TAP as broad based as possible. Think of the TAP as a research project that is spread throughout the APCSC community by the use of the internet and virtual space.  The program has a three-pronged approach consisting of 1) this on-line portal, 2) an on-line map relating disaster management data to human security data, and 3) written products that will be distributed via paper as well as the internet.

Human Development Reports - Monday, May 05, 2008

Human Development is a development paradigm that is about much more than the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. People are the real wealth of nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means —if a very important one —of enlarging people’s choices.

The four main Human Development Indices developed by the Human Development Report are:

HDI - Human Development Index (a summary measure of human development)

GDI - Gender-related Development Index (the HDI adjusted for gender inequality)

GEM - Gender Empowerment Measure (gender equality in economic and political participation and decision making)

HPI - Human Poverty Index (the level of human poverty)
